Broken Sunset

Broken Sunset represents a push toward a greater tension between geometrically constructed or informed pictorial elements and those that are organic and independent from the compositional framework. For me, the world has become so artificial, due to the growing effects of the anthropocene, that I don’t really see ‘nature’ anymore. Some days, when I look up at the sky, I feel like everything beyond the clouds is about to unleash its true force, and that this will be beyond anything we have imagined.

I’m groping toward a representation of a sublime landscape while simultaneously trying to portray a sense of fear and even excitement (how could I not?) around the possible collapse of the earth’s atmosphere, without irony or melancholy. This collapse won’t necessarily last forever, but probably long enough that we will have to join the dinosaurs on the extinction list.
