Untitled (Here in the Flesh)

Untitled (Here in the Flesh) marks a return to oil painting. I have found new environmentally-friendly mediums and cleaning solutions that make it pleasurable to work with. After working in acrylic for so many years – usually painting very quickly in order to get ‘wet on wet’ effects – my hand is steady enough now, making the shift to oil very easy. It’s actually a very forgiving medium. But most of all, I love how sensuous and elemental it is.

As the title implies, I’m playing with corporeal colours and contrasting them against projected, rectilinear forms. These are sensual geometries that begin deep within our bodies and extend beyond our senses. I love the idea that there is a beyond, an other plane, or planes, of existence that we can only project with the totality of our being through a delicate touch of the unknown. Your ass on the chair, or your feet on the floor – what are they pressing on? The tip of the brush, the dispersion and flow of line, volume, form leaning into what one can feel and see – this touch of the unknown that I feel, see, witness, experience gleichzeitig: allatonce….
