Trees Hold Up the Sky
Trees Hold Up the Sky extends the play with ‘brutalist’ aesthetics as applied to things that are contextual, momentary, fleeting or beyond dimensionality. I am growing forms more and more often in these works. In a recent conversation with a curator in my studio, I realized that a blank canvas is most like a sky for me, rather than a wax tablet or void. I guess I’m in an ongoing ‘blue period.’ I’m also extending my use of paint and brushwork to include more gestures that evolve from my love of drawing.
