Transitional Space (After Jeremy Shaw)

Transitional Space (After Jeremy Shaw) is another experiment that begins with a matrix of hand-painted circles in which other forms inside the matrix are expressed by the use of colour. The original inspiration for the colours comes from the Aachen Catherdral, that dates back to the Carolingian period and was first named Charlemagne’s Church of St. Mary, completed in only 10 years in 798. The cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of my favourite sites for its stunning decorative arts and architecture.

I got the idea to work with a ‘wormhole’ as a response to the work of Bremen artist, Sibylle Springer, who has been making paintings and other works as homages to artists whose work inspires her own. So I chose to work with Shaw’s work, who is a colleague and close friend of mine, who I’ve also worked with and written about for various publication texts. While Shaw is a living artist, I also plan to create works from others, some of whom have passed away.
