Take the Cake

Take the Cake, a permanent public mural, is a representation of shadows cast by dancers from the DJD, performing an interpretation of a Cakewalk – the dance created by African-American slaves in imitation of the ballroom dances of their masters – walking, strutting, and dancing across the space. The high chroma figures are animated by an accompanying multicolored LED light choreography that completely changes the palette of the mural and adds movement to the image, making it appear as though the figures are parading across the top of the building.
