Renoviction

Renoviction is a work that came to me as a fleeting image, something that happens often while I am reflecting on the current works that are hung on the walls of my studio. I was trying to remember Aristotle’s hierarchy of beings, upon which humans grace the summit (of course) above animals (who have locomotion but lack intelligence) and plants (which grow but have no locomotion) and stones (which are not alive as they have none of the above characteristics, only that of existing, which all beings share). This overlapped with thoughts about the climate crisis as well as the hysteria around it and I found myself wanting to transgress Aristotle’s hierarchy in support of trees, flowers, marshy waters and even large rocks.
