Brutalist Sunset

Brutalist Sunset is a revisiting of a previous work, Broken Sunset. In this work, I am excited about parallel rhythms, polyrhythms, and the freer, messy brushwork.

Often when I look up at the sky at sunset, I have the strong impression that I can see various areas of colours, incredibly subtly, that appear as patterns, blotches and blobs, or infinitely fine grains of woven pinks, oranges, reds, yellows, greens that feel layered and deep. A depth that feels like I could pull apart the sky like layers of an onion or a series of veils. It’s impossible to describe and even harder to paint, but I imagine this is not the last time I will try. It could be a life’s work.
