Aging Heart
Aging Heart arose out of an intense fatigue I was feeling and I wanted to capture this along with a way out of it. I tried to stay faithful to the initial energy when I first laid down the composition, which meant finding a balance between determinate ease and careful spontaneity. This work is more sculptural and graphic for me – the space described here still arises from a matrix of circles but it is much more obscured. I’m still looking to capture a thingliness to painting, as I’ve said on this website before, a thingliness akin to Guston’s figures. Once again, I’m looking to bring pathos to things that are more aligned with mathematics.
