Demo

Demo is an abstract composition derived from a photo of a protest – the word, in German, is Demo – here in Berlin. I transposed human figures into projected geometric forms aligned to a matrix of hand-painted circles. The work quickly followed Untitled (Here in the Flesh). There is something tense, lively and entangled in that way a protest becomes an organism that is struggling to exist and propagate itself, however it possibly can. The identity of a group is multiple and somehow amorphous; it touches upon another group, usually of policemen, who are even more generic, formally speaking. It was fun to paint the scene for these reasons – at times I let the brush wander away from the corporeal architectures of interwoven bodies.
